BLOOMFIELD NJ - The Bloomfield Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service is hosting a food drive and baby shower at the Brookdale ShopRite from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday January 8.

According to Councilwoman Wartyna "Nina" Davis, about 15 volunteers will work the drive and later deliver the donated items to local pantries on Sunday afternoon.

The food drive portion of the drive will focus on non-perishable food items. The volunteers will also be collecting baby food, formula and diaper for local families.

Some of the best choices for donations are low sodium canned vegetables, canned tuna and canned chicken, no-sugar-added canned fruit and fruit cups, shelf stable milk, canned beef stew, oatmeal, peanut butter, low sodium canned soup, and low sugar cereal like Cheerios.

Residents who wish to donate but have other plans on Sunday can make donations at Bloomfield town hall, Bloomfield Public Library, the Bloomfield Civic and every Bloomfield Fire House.

Dr. Davis proudly proclaimed "MLK Day is not a day off, it is a day of service" at the last food drive at Jack's Foodtown. Sudnay's food drive is a part of a series of events that have taken place since December.
