BLOOMFIELD, NJ - Bloomfield police apprehended two suspects in a series of 'water department' burglaries that took place in Bloomfield and Nutley.

Known as 'diversion burglaries,' one party distracts the victim while the other commits the crime. In this case, the actors stated they were working down the street and needed to gain access to the victim's water  As the occupant would lead one person downstairs, the other would burglarize the residence.

After a burglary on Mountainview Avenue in Nutley on Friday February 17, Nutley police obtained video footage of a newer model pickup truck. That footage was shared with police departments in the area. Bloomfield Police were able to identify the plate and the vehicle and located the vehicle in Jersey City.

Bloomfield Police arrested 31 year old Michaelangelo Costello and 58 year old Wando Delmaro of Jersey City. Bloomfield Detectives were able to apprehend both suspects and their vehicle. Nutley Police also filed charges of burglary and theft.

The actors are also believed to have committed these type of burglaries in several other jurisdictions including New York City. Bloomfield Detectives are working together with the other departments to identify additional crimes that these suspects may be responsible for.

Police Director Samuel DeMaio praised the outstanding work of the Detectives in following every lead no matter how small which ultimately led to the arrest of the suspects. This is yet another incident where people from outside our township attempt to diminish our quality of life. We will work tirelessly to bring to justice anyone who comes to our township to commit criminal activity.
