The show’s special guest, Teresa I. Wright-Johnson, was born in Newark and is a 44 year old, congenital heart disease survivor. Diagnosed with a heart murmur and an aortic valve defect during her first year of life, Teresa knows that heart disease will be her lifelong battle.

The scar on her chest speaks volumes; and Teresa wears it proudly. “It's my badge of courage.” she says. Enduring multiple open heart surgeries and cardiac procedures, her most recent cardiac intervention was in December of 2015.

In 2014, Teresa was also diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, an auto immune disease that attacks the Central Nervous System. Initially frightened and devastated, Teresa has embraced this illness as a challenge and an opportunity to further rely on her faith and walk in her truth.  Teresa knows that life is a gift and every moment must be treasured.

A graduate of Rutgers University New Brunswick, Teresa served in the capacity of Sr. Parole Officer for the NJ State Parole Board until her retirement. Teresa believes where there is life, there is hope. Where there is hope, there can be change. Offering a solid foundation in criminal justice and social services, Teresa hopes to reach out to those in need. She aspires to be a light that shines in dark places. She realizes there is a calling on her life and she humbly embraces that.

Teresa became a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated at Rutgers University, Gamma Kappa Chapter in May of 1993 and she is currently active with the Omega Mu Zeta Graduate Chapter of NJ. Teresa is a volunteer for the Lehigh Valley American Heart Association where she sits as an Executive Board member and serves as the Passion Committee Chairwoman.

In addition, Teresa serves on the Volunteer Committee for Stories that Shaped A Nation, a National Commemoration of the Women Icons of the March on Washington and the Civil Rights Movement. Teresa has received numerous awards, resolutions and commendations from various community leaders and organizations. Teresa believes that change starts within and she is committed to effect change within herself and the communities she serve.

Teresa's passion to serve has no boundaries and she is adamant about raising awareness for heart health, encouraging a healthy lifestyle and inspiring individuals to persevere in the midst of life’s adversities.  Her story of survival is shared publicly. Teresa hopes that collective efforts will significantly reduce and one day cure heart disease, stroke, multiple sclerosis cancer, and all life altering, chronic illnesses. She has been called to serve and it is through service that her purpose has been revealed.
