MONTCLAIR, NJ - A fire broke out on the deck of a building located at 24 Church St. on Friday evening. In less than an hour, fire officials had contained the fire and stopped it from spreading to other parts of the building. 

Sometime around 6:15 p.m., Montclair fire officials responded to a report of a fire at 24 Church St. 

Deputy Fire Chief Robert Duncan stated, "The units arrived on scene to find a heavy smoke condition coming from the rear of the building on the second floor.  The rear deck of the building was burning and beginning to extend to other parts of the structure."

A little over an hour later, the fire was extinguished by Montclair fire officials. They reported that fire damage was contained to the structure of the deck, the fascia of the building and there was slight smoke damage in several offices on the second and third floors. 

Duncan reported that the cause is under investigation and no injuries were reported.
