Dee Dee Bridgewater to Headline Montclair Jazz Festival, August 12

MONTCLAIR, NJ - Dee Dee Bridgewater and her Memphis Soul Band will headline the 8th Annual Montclair Jazz Festival on Saturday, August 12th at Nishuane Park. 

Other headliners include A Christian McBride Situation; and the Cyrus Chestnut Trio during nine-hours of inspiring emerging musicians and world-class jazz music. No tickets are required.

Events of the day include: 

  • The Jazz House Faculty Collective presents the Centennial Birthday Project celebrating luminaries including Ella Fitzgerald, Thelonious Monk, Buddy Rich and Lena Horne.   The Ted Chubb Band and the Jazz House Kids' Big Band.
  • An expanded Family Jazz Discovery Zone will greet our youngest beboppers with a very special appearance by Louis Prima, Jr. many activities curated by the Montclair Library, Montclair Art Museum and Jazz House Kids. 
  • Actor S. Epatha Merkerson is back as Mistress of Ceremonies and WBGO host Gary Walker.

Hosted by Jazz House Kids, celebrating their 15th anniversary in 2017, Jazz House Kids provides the framework inside which students from diverse backgrounds can play, sing and appreciate Jazz music. Through music, mentoring, education and apprenticeship we cultivate tomorrow’s community leaders and global citizens so they may build vibrant communities where they live.
