MONTCLAIR, NJ - A woman was hit by a vehicle while getting ice cream on Glenridge Avenue (near Bloomfield Ave.) on Sunday evening, according to confidential eyewitnesses.

When Montclair Police officials arrived, the driver was nowhere in sight. Witnesses reported that the victim was taken to the hospital in an ambulance and may have known the driver of the vehicle.

After leaving the Crane Park Market, Kevin Gellido, of Gelotti ice cream, was walking with his cart back up Glenridge Avenue towards the store. A woman stopped him to get a scoop of ice cream and then suddenly the car that she had gotten out of, pulled up next to them. The driver started to berate her and threw her purse out of the window at her.

The driver is believed to be her boyfriend. As she goes to pick up her belongings in the street, witnesses report that the side of the car struck her, propelling her body several feet away.

She then got up and jumped on the driver's side of the vehicle as it was speeding away. Witnesses state that she and the driver started fighting with him inside the car and her outside, holding on while he was driving. Eventually, the driver flung her off the car with force and fled the scene.

Gellido was shaken, but unharmed, sources say. He stayed at the scene to ensure that she was safe and that the authorities were called.

Responding officers arrived at the scene and completed a police report, according to sources. The matter is currently under investigation. It is not yet known whether the driver was eventually apprehended.

TAPinto Montclair reached out to the Montclair Police Department and are awaiting an official response.
