East Orange Police Sgt. Tahmesha Dickey Dies During Childbirth

EAST ORANGE, NJ - It is with deep regret that we announce the tragic passing of Sgt. Tahmesha Dickey, a veteran of the East Orange Police Department, who passed away during childbirth on the same date that she became an East Orange Police Officer 16 years ago on January 7, 2002.

Born and raised in Newark, Sgt. Dickey was a hard-working officer and true team player who leaves behind three beloved children — Janaysia Nelson, 20, Mikei Nunn, 13, and her newborn Musin Shabazz.

If you would like to donate baby items to assist Sgt. Dickey’s family during this time of extreme sorrow and loss, please drop off donations to the Office of Public Information, City Hall, 2nd Floor or to Lt. Maurice Boyd, Det. Zulay Hunt, Civilian Nicole Walters or Civilian Tahnik Smalls at the East Orange Police Department, 15 So. Munn.

All municipal flags have been lowered to half-staff in honor of the memory of Sgt. Dickey. May she rest in peace. Please keep her family in your thoughts. **Funeral arrangements will be forthcoming**
