BLOOMFIELD, NJ -  Bloomfield High 1997 graduate Mac-Adley Hyppolite Jr. will bike from New Jersey to Florida in May to raise funds for Children's Hospital.

An avid bike rider for the past four years, Hyppolite is preparing for the road trip by riding 40 to 60 miles a daily.  He rides and considers himself the “average guy,” who can ride. “If I can ride my bike, then anyone can,” he said. However, the bike ride he is currently gearing for up is to benefit the Children’s Hospital in New Jersey.  Mac is doing a solo ride.

An Essex County College student who studied Psychology, and now works for Costco as a stocker in Clifton, has set up a GoFundMe page called, “Biking from New Jersey to Florida.”  I raised $2,170 in 23 days and my goal is $3,000.  I plan to donate $2,000 Children’s Miracle Network in Fort Lauderdale, Florida,” Mac said.

His first bike was a BMX and now he rides a Cannondale, Caad 12, which is a 2016 bike of the year. “I ride every day, and in the summer, 60 to 80 miles a day,” he said. He also rides from Bloomfield to Eagle Rock in West Orange to Garrett Mountain. “I ride from Bloomfield to Brooklyn, Queens, Bear Mountain and Philadelphia which is about 100 miles and took 9.5 hours,” he said. Hyppolite has biking navigation which helps make it easier with turn by turn for all bike trips.

“The views from the GWB is unbelievable and on a bike, you can stop and enjoy the view,” he said.

Next week, he plans to meet with a cyclist who has already made the trip to map out from Bloomfield to Fort Lauderdale.

Hyppolite plans to do his trip either May 1 or May 2 depending on the weather.  “I prefer to ride when it’s good weather,” he said. The whole trip should take about 18 to 21 days.“I am accustomed to riding through blizzards and rain.  I plan to start at sunrise and stop two hours before sundown.  I am so curious while I am riding and want to see what’s out there,” Mac said.

Brielle Cyclery in Brielle donated a $400 helmet, shoes and gear to Hyppolite. “A family owned business really blessed me with the equipment and support,” Mac said.

While he is riding in May to Fort Lauderdale, the GoFundMe page will stay open for additional donations that he will give to the hospital as well as donate his bike.

“I am excited to take the ride and want to thank everyone who has helped and supported me and made this possible,” he said.
