EAST HANOVER, NJ- Wednesday morning brought a bit of a shock to residents of Morris County as multiple eye witness accounts began to pop up of a low flying fighter jet shooting over the county. Morris County officials were quick to address this as the word began to grow.

“The Morris County Communications Center, as well as a number of Morris County Police Departments, received reports of a low flying fighter jet,” said Jeffrey Paul, Director of the Morris County Emergency Management Center. “The Morris County Office of Emergency Management has confirmed that a fighter jet was dispatched to address a small aircraft that violated the temporary flight restriction which is in place during the United Nations session.”

Flight restrictions during the 68th United Nations General Assembly went into place on Sunday and will remain in effect until September 30th. The small aircraft triggered a breach of this restricted zone and was confronted by the fighter jet just north of Morris County.

The Federal Aviation Administration outlines Temporary Flight Restrictions as “a certain area of airspace where air travel is limited because of a temporary hazardous condition, such as a wildfire or chemical spill; a security-related event, such as the United Nations General Assembly; or other special situations.”

The Morris County Office of Emergency Management was quick to alleviate all worries on the topic for residents of the area. Paul finished by saying, “We have been informed that the situation was resolved without any issues impacting Morris County.”
