Green Film Series: Delicious Peace Grows, Feb. 16

MONTCLAIR, NJ - The Montclair office of Environmental Affairs and Community Green proudly present another free movie from the Green Film Series -- all on sustainable economics, environment, and equity – on Thursday, February 16, 6:30 p.m., at the Public Library, 50 South Fullerton Avenue, Montclair. “Delicious Peace Grows (in a Ugandan Coffee Bean)” opens our eyes about how many people’s lives can be affected by our purchasing choices -- in this case, of coffee. Another short film on the topic will be shown after it, plus a discussion.

In the lingering wake of a regime of terror and intolerance, a group of Christian, Jewish and Muslim coffee farmers living and working in the foothills of Mount Elgon in Uganda sought to work collectively to overcome economic hurdles and to challenge ingrained religious prejudices. They formed “Delicious Peace”, a coffee cooperative, partnering with a Fair Trade US buyer and roaster.

Will their endeavor be successful? This uplifting documentary, narrated by Ed O’Neill from the hit TV show Modern Family, shows how the farmers’ standard of living improved, and their messages of peace and fair wages spread to farmers in nearby regions as well as to their coffee customers here.

Please join us, and bring a friend, a neighbor, or a family member for this entertaining and informative free film screening, and an open public discussion afterwards. For further questions, please contact Environmental Affairs at 973-509-5721, or<
