MONTCLAIR, NJ - Hundreds of children gathered at Edgemont Pond for the annual fishing derby on July 22.
Sponsored by the Montclair Police Athletic League (MPAL) and Montclair
Policeman’s Benevolent Association (PBA) Local 53, and in partnership with the Montclair Anglers, Eureka Lodge #52 (PHA), and Montclair Recreation, the pond was stocked with fish before the event.
The derby was well attended by over 120 youth of the community, parents, and friends. After receiving a safety briefing, and casting class/contest from the Montclair Anglers, the majority of the youth were able to catch at least one fish, many caught several.
Prizes were awarded for the 1st fish caught, largest fish caught, the most fish caught (18), and furthest cast. In preparation for the event, the pond was restocked by a local hatchery, thanks to PBA Local 53.
