MONTCLAIR, NJ - International trumpet sensation Claudio Roditi will be performing in Montclair with his Bossa Trio to spice things up Brazilian style on February 11 as part of the Jazz House Kids' Body & Soul fundraiser.

The two-time GRAMMY Award nominee, and has played alongside Dizzy Gillespie, Jimmy Heath, Herbie Mann, Horace Silver, Charlie Rouse, McCoy Tyner, Gary Bartz, Paquito D’Rivera and a host of others.

Integrating post-bop elements and Brazilian rhythmic concepts into his palette with ease, Roditi plays with power and lyricism.  According to a release, this versatility keeps the trumpeter in demand as a performer, recording artist and teacher.

The event is set to take place at the Van Vleck House & Gardens, a historic 12-acre estate owned by the Montclair Foundation.

Tickets for this event are available here.

Born in 1946 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Roditi began his musical studies when he was just six years old.  By the time he was 12, he had already become a serious jazz listener.  In 1966, he was named a finalist at the International Jazz Competition in Vienna, Austria.  While in Vienna, Roditi met Art Farmer, one of his idols, and the friendship inspired the young trumpeter to follow a career in jazz.  He has since performed and recorded with many jazz greats, including Dizzy Gillespie, Herbie Mann, Joe Henderson, Horace Silver, McCoy Tyner, Tito Puente, and Paquito D'Rivera.

With twenty-four critically acclaimed albums to his credit, Claudio Roditi continually develops his playing and compositions through new recording projects.  His last release on the Resonance label, BONS AMIGOS (HCD 2010), features several Roditi originals (Bossa de Mank, Piccolo Samba, and the driving, straight-ahead tune, Levitation) framed by seven compositions written by Brazilian masters such as Antonio Carlos Jobim, Johnny Alf, guitarist/composer Toninho Horta, and pianist Eliane Elias.

Show Details are as follows:

The Early Show
The Patron Event “Early Show” starts the celebration at 6:30 pm with a tasting of exclusive wines and spirits. Each bottle poured is perfectly paired with fine cuisine and soulful music from the Jazz House Alumni Band.  Patrons enjoy complementary valet parking.  Patrons stay for the Main Set!  The party is just getting started!

The Main Set
At 8:00 pm, we open the doors for the “Main Set,” and that’s when things really heat up with our trio of jazz clubs – Big Band, Soul Jazz and Bossa Nova.  Each room has its own special own vintages, menu and live band to match the mood.   Wine enthusiasts and jazz fans alike roll from club to club throughout the night, soaking up the celebration and savoring the music.

Roditi's BRAZILLIANCE x 4 (HCD 2002) earned him a Grammy nomination, in 2009, in the Best Latin Jazz Album category.
