Joseph Lombardi, 90, Identified as Pedestrian Fatally Injured at Intersection of Grove and Walnut Street


MONTCLAIR, NJ - On Thursday a motor vehicle accident was reported where a pedestrian was struck at the intersection of Grove and Walnut Street. While the pedestrian's identity was not immediately released, he was taken to UMDNJ Hospital in Newark and treated for his injuries.

The man was later identified as Joseph Lombardi, 90, who passed away from his injuries on Friday.

Lombardi, who was born and raised in Montclair,  is the husband of Mildred, father of  three adult children Joseph and his wife Tracey, Ginger Reilly and her husband Donald E, and Peter and his wife Janice, grandfather to eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild according to Caggiano Memorial Home officials.

Lombardi was part of Joseph Lombardi and sons and a WWII Veteran in the Army/Air Force. He helped neighbors to build a church in Okinawa, Japan.

Visiting will be on Monday from 6-9p.m. at Caggiano Memorial Home, 62 Grove Street Montclair. A funeral mass is planned for Tuesday, Dec. 23 at 10a.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Church in Verona.

In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital would be appreciated.
