Matinee Starring Mickey Rooney at MPL Every Wednesday in August


On Wednesdays at 2 p.m., Montclair Public Library hosts The Every Wednesday Matinee, a classic film series presented in its auditorium. Mickey Rooney films will be shown in August.

The Human Comedy (August 2) - Starring Mickey Rooney, Frank Morgan and James Craig. Lives intersect in unexpected ways in a small California town during WWII, where a teen delivers telegrams that are not always welcome. (1943, 117 minutes, B&W)

Girl Crazy (August 9) - Starring Mickey Rooney, Judy Garland and Gil Stratton. A teenage playboy is sent to a Western mining school by his father where two ladies competing to be a rodeo queen vie for the young man's love. (1943, 99 minutes, B&W)

It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (August 16) - Starring Spencer Tracy, Milton Berle and Mickey Rooney. A large number of people scramble to find $350,000 supposedly hidden by a man who passed away after causing a major traffic jam in this all-star comedy. (1963, 154 minutes, Color)

Love Finds Andy Hardy (August 23) - Starring Mickey Rooney, Judy Garland and Lewis Stone. Andy finds himself the target of a lot of female attention at the country club Christmas party. (1938, 91 minutes, B&W)

Requiem for a Heavyweight (August 30) - Starring Anthony Quinn, Jackie Gleason and Mickey Rooney. A boxer has never taken a dive but is pressured to do so by his sleazy manager, who has bet against him in an upcoming bout. (1962, 95 minutes, B&W)
