Street Smart NJ is a public education campaign coordinated by the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority – aims to raise awareness of pedestrian and motorist laws and change the behaviors that lead to pedestrian and cyclist crashes and fatalities. Obeying traffic laws and street signs is vital to everyone’s health and safety.

During that time, three pedestrians were killed and 226 were injured. New Jersey is 15th in the nation in pedestrian fatalities 765 pedestrians killed statewide, more than 22,000 injured between 2011-2015. Pedestrian deaths account for 29% percent of all crash-related fatalities from 2011-2015, well above the national average of 18 percent.
