PATERSON, NJ - A citywide narcotics sweep by the Paterson Police Department on Tuesday led to the discovery of a “major cock fighting ring and operation” at a building located at 106 6th Avenue.

Upon raiding the location at approximately 1:00 a.m. Wednesday, police discovered nearly 60 roosters and common illegal drugs, the report stated. The location was immediately shut down, and, with the assistance of Paterson animal control, the roosters will be taken to a sanctuary in Madison.

In addition to the cockfighting ring, narcotics detectives arrested eight suspects, seized three bags of marijuana, 2THC Vape pipes, and five oxycodone pills; and the confiscated approximately $2,300 in U.S. currency.

“This latest round-up is proof positive that we will not tolerate fowl play in Paterson,” Mayor Andre Sayegh said. “I commend our police department for their exemplary efforts in this major operation.”
