MILLBURN, NJ - Fire crews battled a blaze in town on Friday that broke out on Millburn Avenue.

According to Millburn Fire Department Battalion Cheif Tom Pizzano, the fire department was first alerted to the fire at approximately 12:15 p.m. Arriving on scene at Oxford Jewelers at 302 Millburn Ave., Pizzano said that it took 15 to 20 minutes to get the fire under control.

"They had the line in the basement pretty quickly," Pizzano said. "Started knocking it down but there was so much smoke it was hard to tell [if it was controlled] in the beginning. After 15-20 minutes it was knocked down."

He estimated that it took another 5-10 minutes to extinguish. At press time, There was no official confirmation on the cause of the fire.

"We're not sure what caused it yet," Pizzano added. "It's still under investigation. Way too early to venture to even guess."

Pizzano also confirmed that there were no injuries reported at the scene. Along with firemen, police and first aid from Millburn, firefighters and engines from Summit, Springfield, Union, Irvington, West Orange South Orange and Maplewood were also on the scene helping.
