WOODLAND PARK, N.J. – George Juzdan of Juzdan Gear, and Mike Guerriero of Gelotti Ice Cream have joined forces to launch initiatives and fundraising efforts for Hurricane Harvey Relief in New Jersey.

Their first initiative is creating and selling T-shirts with an image of Texas that say “United for the Lone Star.” The T-shirt design will be finanized next week. The shirts feature the names of 14 other local businesses who have already joined the effort and are helping to sponsor the initiative started just days ago. The businesses will cover the costs for all the shirts, so from the time the first one is sold, money generated will go directly to relief efforts.

All three Gelotti locations (Totowa, Caldwell, and Montclair) will also be selling the shirts in store and serve as a drop off point for donations. Stuffed Burger in Montclair will also be selling the shirts and donations will go to support the American Red Cross.

The companies participating so far are Stuffed Burger (Montclair), Park Street Auto (Montclair), Dough Artisan Pizza (Caldwell), Kimchi Smoke (Montclair), Gelotti, Juzdan Gear, Caldwell Democrats, TAPinto LLC, with about 20 others who are interested but have not committed.

“I was on vacation watching the news and the devastation going on in Texas and my fiancée and I were devastated,” said Guerriero. “Sandy was just a few years back and we remembered how tough it was in our state to get necessities like water and gas.”

Juzdan, whose company Juzdan Gear does commercial printing, immediately had the idea of donating his time and supplies to make shirts to sell after reports of Harvey being called a “once in 500 year storm.”

“I know people directly in the path of the hurricane, who will be rebuilding for years after this storm,” said Juzdan. “I am grateful to work with someone like Mike who is entrenched in his communities like I am, within hours we had our friends and businesses lining up to help out and didn’t expect such a quick response.”

Juzdan and Guerriero attended Memorial Middle School in Woodland Park and then Passaic Valley High School in Little Falls where they were classmates and served on the student council. Juzdan also served as the Student Government President at Montclair State University. Guerriero has led fundraising and charity efforts for Gelotti since high school working with non-profits such as Eva’s Village, Play for PINK, and the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

To become a sponsor, email george@juzdangear.com by Sept. 6.

Editor's Note: George Juzdan is also co-owner of the TAPinto Passaic Valley site.

Even if your workplace is not unionized, you can thank our American labor unions for locking in higher standards ...
