NEWARK, NJ – Montclair is among the 14 Essex County municipalities and 36 non-profit community organizations to receive $4.8 million in grants from the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program and the Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) program.
Planning Director Janice Talley announced that Montclair received $322,927 for the 2014 program year.
These programs provide eligible municipalities and non-profit organizations with valuable assistance to upgrade infrastructure and facilities, improve handicap accessibility, promote economic development and offer programs to assist children, the elderly and the needy. CDBG and ESG are funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and administered by the Essex County Division of Housing and Community Development.
Interested parties are encouraged to apply for federal funds under U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) 2015 Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG) that are now available from the Montclair Department of Planning & Community Development.
The funds are available to non-profit organizations whose projects benefit primarily persons of low and moderate income. Recent projects have included funding for housing, substance abuse counseling and youth programs as well as street improvements. Completed applications are due in the Montclair Planning Department by noon on Friday, Nov. 21.
