MONTCLAIR, NJ - In a 4-0 vote, Montclair Board appoints Dr. Kendra V. Johnson as the new Superintendent of Schools effective May 1, 2018. She will replace the current interim superintendent, Barbara Pinsak, who was appointed to the position in March 2017.
After a lengthy search process that included community input and two interim Superintendents, two of the three candidates in the running, dropped out, leaving Johnson as the final selection.
On Wednesday, the Montclair Board of Education voted to ratify a contract for newly hired superintendent Kendra Johnson during a special meeting on Wednesday.
The seven-member board approved the contract 4-0 despite three members' absence. The three absent board members included Jessica de Koninck, Anne Mernin and Eve Robinson.
Johnson's contract will be effective through June 30, 2021. She has been serving as the Montclair Public School District's assistant superintendent for equity, curriculum and instruction.
The district's current interim superintendent, Barbara Pinsak, was appointed to the position in March 2017.
