MONTCLAIR, NJ - An $18,000 grant has been awarded to the Montclair Health Department to upgrade its inspection software and purchase new laptops for inspectors to conduct inspections in the field.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Association of Food and Drug Officials (AFDO) recently announced Montclair as the Year 2 (FY 2015) award winner of the AFDO-administered Retail Program Standards Grant Program. Montclair and Vineland were listed as the only New Jersey municipalities to receive awards.
“The funding will go toward upgrading the technology that allows our inspectors to do a good portion of their work off site,” said Health Department Director Sue Portuese. “Our current software and hardware is outdated and not working optimally, so the grant will help offset funds designated for the updates in our 2015 operating budget.”
The national grant program provides funds for the completion of projects and training to enhance conformance with the Voluntary National Retail Food Regulatory Program Standards (Retail Program Standards). Grant funding was open to state, local, territorial, and tribal regulatory retail food programs that are enrolled in the Retail Program Standards.
