Montclair HS Principal Leaving for West Windsor-Plainsboro, Officials Announce

MONTCLAIR, NJ - James Earle, Montclair High School's current principal, will be leaving for a position in another district. According to a letter sent to parents by Superintendent Kendra Johnson, Earle will become Assistant Superintendent in the West Windsor-Plainsboro Regional School District.

Earle has been in the Montclair School District since 2009. Prior to coming to Montclair as principal in 2009, Earle was principal in Trenton for three years. He also served as assistant principal of Spartanburg High School in South Carolina prior to relocating to New Jersey.

According to the release, the search for a new principal will begin by June 14 and will include a community meet and greet in July, if all goes as planned.

Johnson sent the following letters to parents/caregivers on Friday:

"Dear Families/Caregivers and Staff:

I am writing to share that our dedicated Montclair High School Principal, James Earle, is a sole finalist for the Assistant Superintendent position in the West Windsor–Plainsboro Regional School District. While Principal Earle’s departure would be a loss for the Montclair Public Schools, it would be a great opportunity for him and an asset for West Windsor. In the education arena, we are in the business of supporting, encouraging and celebrating our personal and professional milestones. Accordingly, we will do just the same for Principal Earle should he accept this opportunity.

It is my understanding that the West Windsor–Plainsboro School District will release a press announcement naming Principal James Earle as a sole finalist today. Therefore, I wanted to share that we, the Montclair Public Schools, will ensure that our flagship high school has a stellar educational leader at its helm.

Should Principal Earle transition into this position, the district has a detailed plan that entails, in relevant part, the following essential action steps and anticipated timeline:

Post the Montclair High School principal position locally and regionally on or before June 14, 2018.
Seek voice from essential stakeholders: students, staff members, parents/guardians, and community on or before June 26, 2018.
Establish interview teams on or before June 28, 2018.
Review applications and set interviews on or before June 28, 2018.
Set up first round interviews on or before July 10, 2018.
Set up second round interviews on or before July 13, 2018.
Set up a Board of Education conversation on or before July 16, 2018.
Announce a community Meet and Greet on or before July 16, 2018.
Although this change may be unsettling, I want to reassure you that Montclair High School is a top priority and will continue to receive our support and attention. Mr. Earle, with his experience, background, and record of high-achievement, will be hard to replace; however, I believe we have an opportunity to build on his expertise and create positive change to provide a top-notch education for our students. We will be unyielding in our efforts to find a high-quality replacement, as the families and students of Montclair deserve a leader extraordinaire!

Please join me in wishing Mr. Earle well as he pursues this much-deserved opportunity. I look forward to working with you as we build upon the excellence already established at Montclair High School.
