Montclair Library Selects New Director, After Launching National Search


MONTCLAIR, NJ - The Montclair Public Library has announced the addition of Peter Coyl, as the new Library Director, effective March 1.

Following a national search, Wilfred Adkins, President of the Board of Trustees announced that, "The Board of Trustees has unanimously chosen Peter Coyl to be the next Director of the Montclair Public Library."  

Coyl will succeed David Hinkley, who retired at the end of 2016 after ten years in the position.

Diana Lunin, Eve Schaenen, Alison Bauer, Clair Walls and Clifford Kulwin, who served as the chair, were all a part of the Library Director search committee.

Coyl is currently working as a Senior Librarian with the Dallas Public Library, a position he has held since 2011.

He has previously managed an international school library in Taiwan and,also worked as a staff member of the Oregon Legislative Assembly, according to his bio.

Coyl is a graduate of Oakland University in Michigan, with a Bachelor's Degree and his Master of Science is in Library and Information Science from Drexel University.

He first began his library career as a bookmobile driver in Rochester Hills, Michigan, noting that he has held a multitude of positions within the library.

Coyl is currently serving as chair of the GLBT Round Table of the American Library Association and is a member of the Intellectual Freedom Committee of the Texas Library Association.
