Montclair Police Pursue Stolen Vehicle Through Multiple Towns

MONTCLAIR, NJ - Montclair Police were in pursuit of a stolen vehicle Tuesday evening that resulted in recovery of the vehicle a few hours later in Newark.

Lt. David O'Dowd of the Montclair Police Department confirmed that the car was stolen at 8:06 p.m. from S. Fullerton Avenue near The Crescent. 

The victim, a 22-year-old woman from Clifton left her vehicle running while she went into a store across the street. O'Dowd said, "When she returned, someone was sitting in her car." She attempted to gain entry through a passenger door and the person took off.

Montclair Police, who happened to be on Bloomfield Avenue, pursued the 2015 Chevrolet Cruze down Bloomfield Ave. and Ridgewood Ave. through Glen Ridge. The pursuit was broken off as the vehicle entered onto Garden State Parkway heading South.

O'Dowd added that the police are still searching for the suspect who is described as a heavy black male with a bald head. The vehicle was found in Newark around 11p.m. the same night.
