MONTCLAIR, NJ - This first week of spring comes with an extra ingredient to smile about for the Montclair Women's Basketball team as the girls made history securing third place at the 2015 NCAA Division III women's basketball tournament. MSU defeating Tufts University by 56-48, came home to a celebration on campus of their notable season.

Montclair, who fell short 58-70 to George Fox University on Friday on their first game of the Final Four tournament, looked ready to capture the third place consolation spot and further claim as the third best team in the entire nation.

Seniors Melissa Tobie and Janitza Aquino combined with 39 points along with Tobie's 17 rebounds and five assists to crown their final season for the Red Hawks basketball team.

The two captains were ecstatic after the game, and for a second the wound opened by George Fox Friday night seemed to have temporarily been mended.

"I was still upset about it until we probably got here, it's like coach said: this is testing our character showing how we can respond to such a tough loss. But I think the coaches and the whole team did a great job of bouncing back." stated Janitza at the Saturday game's post-conference. "We played some great basketball today. It's a great feeling."

Montclair, who had a goal of finishing the season in the Final Four can now look back proudly at a season sure to stay in everyone's minds for a very long time. The team finished 31-2, the finest in history with a record high number of wins along with matching the best finish by a New Jersey Athletic Conference team NCAA Tournament.

As for senior co-captain Melissa Tobie, who last week scored her 2,000th career point and grabbed her 1,000th rebound, couldn't be more genuinely grateful for the year she and her team had.

"We really appreciate all of the support we received throughout the year, we were able to go out on a win, rarely teams get to do that. It definitely made yesterday easier to handle knowing we could play Red Hawk basketball and we played like we did today. It will leave a lasting memory in my mind, for sure." ended Tobie with an undisguisable smile on her face.
