MONTCLAIR, NJ - Nearly 100 youth in grades K-8 gathered on Saturday, July 14 for Montclair's Annual Fishing Derby.

The event was hosted by the Montclair Police Athletic League (MPAL) in collaboration with the Montclair Police Department, Montclair Anglers Association, Eureka Lodge #52, Montclair Police Foundation, and the Policemen’s Benevolent Association (PBA) Local #53.

This free fun-filled day allowed the community and the police to come together in a relaxed environment. Many families participated in the event and the children were able to compete with each other while having fun. Montclair Anglers started the derby with a safety briefing and assisted the participants. Each participant was given a fishing pole, and bait.

Prizes were awarded to participants based on first fish, biggest fish hooked, most fish caught, hooked, and furthest distance cast. Pizza and drinks were provided for lunch.
