NEWARK, NJ - Jose Asencio of Newark will enter a plea and be sentenced on Friday in Essex County Superior Court in connection with the death of Matthew BeneduceMcGrath, 59 of Verona who was killed in a hit-and-run on June 24.
BeneduceMcGrath was struck and killed while crossing the street at Bloomfield Avenue and Hillcrest Terrace.
According to earlier reports, surveillance video identified a light-colored Ford van as the vehicle that struck BeneduceMcGrath. Asencio was identified as the driver of the van at the time of the collision. He was arrested and charged in July with leaving the scene of an accident causing death, a second-degree offense.
Asencio will appear before Judge Teare on the 9th floor of the Essex County Courthouse at 10 a.m.
