Over 25 Cats, 1 Dog Rescued From Deplorable Conditions in Woodland Park Hoarding Case

WOODLAND PARK, NJ - Over 25 cats and one dog were were removed from deplorable conditions in a home of a local elderly woman 

Passaic County S.P.C.A. Humane Police and Wayne Township Animal Control, who services the Borough of Woodland Park, responded to the home at 15 Hillery Street on a report of animals living in deplorable conditions in a home without heat or basic necessities. Officials said that the homeowner was unable to care for the animals on her own, and as a result, the cats began to multiply and the house was filled with urine and feces. 

Wayne Animal Control removed the dog from the home and provided veterinary care. Infested with fleas, it is being cared for at the Wayne Township Animal Shelter. The cats are in the process of being humanely captured so they can receive proper care at the Wayne Township Animal Shelter.

“The conditions inside the home are completely unacceptable for both humans and animals,” said Sgt. Jesse Traynor of the Passaic County S.P.C.A.  “Right now we are focused on removing all the animals from the house and making sure the homeowner gets the help she needs.”

Officials said that the homeowner’s living situation was referred to Passaic County Adult Protective Services and that no charges have been filed against her at this time. The S.P.C.A. and Animal Control were assisted by the Woodland Park Police Department and West Paterson Fire Department.
