MONTCLAIR, NJ - An intimate ceremony for family and friends officially marked the start of the terms for new Montclair police leadership on Wednesday morning.

Township Manager Tim Stafford and Township Clerk Linda Wanat were on hand to oversee and officiate the swearing in of Police Chief Todd Conforti, Deputy Chief Tracy Frazzano and Deputy Chief Wilhelm Young. The three police force leaders were appointed to acting Chief and Deputy Chief positions on March 1. 

Conforti spoke to TAP into Montclair about his new position expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve the Township of Montclair in this capacity. He said, "I'm honored, I'm humbled and looking forward to the challenge of working with the township." He continued adding that he has a great team of officers that he looks forward to working with to best serve the Township of Montclair.

Conforti has been an officer in Montclair for 22 years and has come up through the ranks. He has served as a detective for most of his career, having spent time working in the narcotics bureau prior to his assignment as Deputy Chief.

He added that his major goal is community engagement and service. Conforti stated that he looks forward to serving in his new capacity, "I want to partner with the community. We have a good relationship..." and added that he looks forward to continuing to strengthen the community-police relations in Montclair.

A formal swearing-in evening ceremony will be held later this month.
