NUTLEY, NJ - Whether your game is High School Football, Adult League Soccer, or Mahjong at the Senior Center, the team at Pro Staff Physical Therapy has a team of therapists that offer therapy targeted to a specific injury, and since every patient and injury is different, every course of treatment is unique.
ProStaff started in Clifton. The company has expanded to Passaic, Kearny, Montclair, Rockaway and Oakland, NJ. The newest location in Nutley has become the flagship location as it is the largest facility taking up two floors of a new building in the center of the township, directly across from the high school.
Over the course of the day, the team will work with a wide range of patients from the young athlete with a sports injury, an adult with an injury that required surgery, and senior with an age related condition. Experience includes orthopedics, sports medicine, total joint replacement, neck/spine rehabilitation, vestibular/balance rehab, and much more.
Nutley residents should take note that Dr. Samantha Sammaro, Physical Therapy Director is a Nutley High and Rutgers Medical School graduate (it was UMDNJ at the time). Dr. Sammaro played soccer while earning her Undergraduate degree in Biology at Felician College. That passion for sports carried through to her professional life. Today she specializes in orthopedics, treating all levels from pediatrics through high school athletes and older adults. She has been a part of the ProStaff Nutley office since 2016.
Her work includes everything from working with rotator cuffs, ACL repair, and post-operative care. Since every injury is different, and every patient is different, the care is highly specialized. Factors such as body mass, age, osteoporosis and even balance issues set the tone for how things will proceed. Sammaro explained that patients are tested, and retested to measure progress. Therapy sessions can take anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour.
Director of Occupational/Hand Therapy Jaclyn Kopidlowski is one of only a handful of Certified Hand Therapists in the region. She also is an NHS graduate, and graduated from Villanova and the Graduate Therapy Program at Columbia University. Kopidlowski explained that while arthritis and carpal tunnel injuries are a part of her work, other injuries, such as severe cuts that sever muscles from kitchen or work place accidents require specialized therapy post surgery. Her work includes rehabilitation for fractures to elbows and wrists, never compressions, tendon ruptures, and lacerations. She explained that her goal is to get the patient back to doing the things they always did in their everyday life. Hand Therapy became a part of Pro Staff's Nutley location in January of this year.
Prostaff also works with patients on wellness, sports training, nutrition. and preventation/maintenance.
