GLEN RIDGE, NJ - Two men were killed in a single-vehicle crash in Glen Ridge around 10 p.m. on November 26, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, announced on Friday.
Preliminary reports stated that Montclair Police Officers attempted a motor vehicle stop of a 2008 Mercedes when the vehicle sped away at a high rate of speed, Montclair Police Officers followed the vehicle with police lights activated.
ECPO officials stated that the preliminary investigation indicates the driver hit a light pole in the area of High Street and Bloomfield Avenue in Glen Ridge. The car then hit a tree and then burst into flames. One man was ejected from the vehicle. Both men in the car were pronounced dead at the scene.
Since the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office investigates all police pursuits when there is a serious injury or death, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Professional Standards Bureau will be investigating this incident.
The driver of the car, Galo G. Flores, 25, of Harrison was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:17 p.m. The passenger, Carlos Nieves, 20, of Newark was also pronounced dead at the scene at 10:17 p.m.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
