MONTCLAIR, NJ - On Tuesday afternoon, about three dozen protesters gathered for about an hour on Bloomfield Avenue near the Mission Street intersection.
The group, who appeared to be between the ages of 15 to the mid 20s, gathered holding signs to express their concerns for the allegations of police brutality after the death of 25 year old Freddie Gray in Baltimore, Maryland. Family and friends state that Gray was in good health at the time of his arrest, but later sustained injuries to his spine and larynx. His death was attributed to injuries to his spinal cord and an investigation is pending.
A passerby in Montclair posted his support of the youths on twitter saying, "I swear this made me smile. Peaceful protest from young men, who are making an impact on everyone and most importantly the young kids growing up on that very block. The only way to make a change is to change our entire mindset!"
As cars drove past, some honked to show support of the youths' peaceful protest.
