MONTCLAIR, NJ - PSE&G officials have issued a statement regarding the manhole cover explosions in Montclair and Verona on Tuesday. 

Almost 24 hours later, PSE&G spokesperson Brooke Houston Fisher maintains that the cause of seven manhole covers being blown off remains undetermined.

Around 5:30 PM on Tuesday, seven manhole covers were blown off near the intersection of Bloomfield and Claremont Avenue in Montclair.

Fisher stated, "PSE&G responded with both electric and gas crews to try to determine what caused the covers to pop." This incident resulted in no injuries or service interruption to PSE&G customers.

Investigators and crews were on the scene overnight and into Wednesday investigating the incident. 

"Based on our investigation, there is no damage to underground electric lines, nor have we found the presence of natural gas in or near the manholes." She concluded, "The cause remains undetermined."
