Registration Now Open: Montclair Run, June 4

The 2017 Montclair Run 10K and 2 Mile fun run/walk are on Sunday June 4.

MONTCLAIR, NJ - Registration is now open for the annual Montclair Run, now in its 35th year, which is a 10K and a 2 Mile fun run/walk set for June 4.

Hosted by the YMCA of Montclair and the Montclair Recreation Department, the Montclair Run drew a crowd of over 1,400 runners, walkers and volunteers during last year's race.

“This is an incredible event and we’re making a few enhancements this year,” says Washima Redding, Senior Health and Wellness Director at the YMCA of Montclair. Washima took over as race co-director from Carol Kearney who recently retired from the YMCA.

“Before heading into retirement, Carol ensured that the race became certified, so we’re making minor changes to our 10K route to meet those requirements. Second, advance registration will be online only. Third, participants can use online tools to help raise funds for scholarships individually or with a team.”

“The Montclair Run appeals to runners and walkers of all abilities,” says Pat Brechka, the Montclair Recreation Department Director and race co-director. “It’s a family friendly event that helps promote a healthy lifestyle. And, participants are raising money for a good cause that supports the community.”

For the 2017 race, all runners must register online prior to midnight on May 29. Online registration is now open at Same day in person registration at the YMCA of Montclair will be available from 7-9 am on race day.

Funds raised make it possible for the YMCA of Montclair to fulfill its mission to strengthen individuals, families, and community by developing spirit, mind, and body. The YMCA of Montclair offers financial assistance for childcare, summer camp, membership, and other programs to ensure opportunities for everyone to grow and thrive. The Montclair Run also makes it possible for the Montclair Recreation Department to offer scholarships for those in need in the community.

In addition to the two races, there will be a health and wellness fair, sports massages, music, activities for kids, and a moonwalk.

Both the YMCA and the Montclair Recreation Department are dedicated to helping the community improve their health and wellness. The Montclair Run is a great way for everyone to kick off the start of the summer. More than 1,400 runners, walkers, volunteers, and spectators of all ages are expected to participate.

Race Day Schedule

  • 7-9am Registration/Check-In
  • 8:30am 2-Mile Fun Run/Walk starts in front of the YMCA
  • 9-11am Family Fun Activities (wellness & health fair, free sports massages, DJ, games, and a moonwalk)
  • 9:30am 10K Run starts in front of the YMCA
  • 11am Awards

The races begin and end in front of the YMCA of Montclair, 25 Park Street, Montclair.

This year’s 10K run lead sponsor is the Bravitas Group Inc. They are longtime generous supporters of the YMCA. “Because the Y is there to serve the needs of the community, we want to be there for the Y so they have the resources to do just that,” says Rhonda Silver of the Bravitas Group, who also serves on the YMCA Board of Directors.

“We have many wonderful sponsors who support us year after year,” says YMCA of Montclair CEO Jo Ann Short. “We couldn’t do all that we do to strengthen the community without their support.”
