Dansereau signed the order at the Roselle Borough Council meeting.

“Our police were involved with, and they sat down with, our municipal attorney and myself before we even considered presenting this to the council,“ Dansereau said.

The mayor said she was “very pleased" and felt "lucky" to be living in a municipality that has "respected its immigrant population for decades and has is not adhered and will not adhere to some of the horrible things happening in other places.”

Dansereau spearheaded the Municipal id Card Program” and signed it into law in the fall of 2015 before a packed room of residents. The law was quickly put into action at the town's library.

State Assemblywoman Annette Quijano, (D-2th Dist.) spoke at the meeting, saying she supported the mayor's effort relating to undocumented residents in the community. “By passing this executive order you will be joining a growing list of other communities that are standing up to protect their neighbors,” said Quijano.

Dansereau’s reading of the order, her remarks and comments made by members of the council and Quijano can be viewed in full in the video below.
