The South Orange-Maplewood Adult School welcomes film critic Stephen Whitty back to the Black Box Theatre for an exploration of the moody world of film noir. Full of rain-swept streets, femme fatales and doomed heroes, film noir continues to influence filmmakers today. We’ll look at both the classic originals and modern homages, with stories and clips from films like Double Indemnity, Nightmare Alley, The Asphalt Jungle and Body Heat.

A two-time former chair of the New York Film Critics Circle, Stephen Whitty has written for the New York Daily News, the Star-Ledger, and many other sites, newspapers and national magazines. He appears regularly as a guest on television and radio and as a juror at film festivals; his most recent book is The Alfred Hitchcock Encyclopedia.
