Two Animals in Distress Rescued from Hot Car as Couple Dines, Montclair Police Say

MONTCLAIR, NJ - A couple left their two small dogs in a car parked on Plymouth St. 

Police Officers were called to the scene after neighbors suspected they were in distress due to heat. Officers called the fire department to assist in gaining entry to the red Toyota Corolla.

Lt. David O'Dowd of the Montclair Police Department said that the suspects were a 27-year-old male and a 28-year-old female from Maryland. He added that the" couple were dining in Cuban Pete's and left two small dogs in their vehicle."

He added, "Montclair Fire Departent responded and were successful in gaining access to the vehicle." 

O'Dowd stated that officers on scene believed the dogs to be in distress, but they were uninjured. 

Montclair Animal Control and NJSPCA are investigating the matter.
