Witnesses provided police with a description of the fleeing suspect as well as his last direction of flight. Neighbors on North Willow Street stated that police searched their yard looking for evidence.

An officer responding to the scene observed an individual matching the description of the suspect.  This person was detained and is currently in custody. A second individual determined to be involved is also currently in custody at this time and charges are pending against this party as well.

The injured person was transported to University Hospital in Newark where he is currently listed in critical condition.

According to reports, multiple firearms were recovered from the scene.

This appears to be an isolated incident believed to be stemming from a dispute between individuals that knew each other and there is no danger to the public.

That suspect and a second suspect individual remain in custody as police await charges from the Essex County Prosecutor, the department stated later that evening in a public announcement. Police said, "Multiple firearms were recovered from the scene."

The road was closed to traffic as police officers were seen on the street between Claremont Avenue and Glenridge Avenue until around 3PM. However, officers remained in the area searching for evidence until after 4PM.

A blue four-door Hyundai was also towed from the scene by officers.

"This appears to be an isolated incident believed to be stemming from a dispute between individuals that knew each other," police officials stated. Charges are pending.
