FAIRFIELD, NJ — A Totowa woman whose identity is being withheld was pinned between a vehicle and Hair Core beauty salon of Fairfield, located in a strip mall at 390 Fairfield Rd., on Monday morning, according to Fairfield police.

The woman, who was described as being 60 years old, had injuries to her lower extremities. Her full condition is not known at this time.

The Fairfield Police Department received a call regarding a vehicle that struck the hair salon just before 10 a.m., and responding officers discovered that the vehicle had also pinned a pedestrian between the vehicle and the building. According to police, Fairfield officers and EMS from Atlantic Ambulance were able to extricate the pedestrian, who was eventually transported to an area hospital.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the pedestrian had just exited the salon and was in front of the store when she was struck by a vehicle operated by an 81-year-old female from Fairfield. According to police, it is still unclear as to what caused the vehicle to strike the pedestrian and go into the building with such force.

The driver was checked by medical personnel at the scene, but refused treatment, police said. Police also said that it did not appear that the driver suffered any medical condition at the time of the crash.

The vehicle was impounded pending an examination to determine if there were any mechanical issues.

The Fairfield Fire Department and officials from the township’s building department responded to assist and it was determined that the building was structurally sound and could be inhabited.

The incident is being investigated by Fairfield Officer Jeffrey Dean.
