SUMMIT, NJ - The award-winning musical "Violet" will take the Summit Playhouse stage starting May 5. "Violet" tells the story of a young woman'’s quest for beauty amidst the image-obsessed landscape of the 1960s. Recently revived on Broadway starring Sutton Foster, “Violet” features Jeanine Tesori’s score of show-stopping anthems ranging from American roots to folk to gospel.

Facially disfigured in a childhood accident, Violet dreams of a miraculous transformation through the power of faith. Convinced that a televangelist in Oklahoma can heal her, she hops a Greyhound bus and starts the journey of a lifetime across the Deep South. Along the way she forms unlikely friendships with her fellow riders who teach her about beauty, love, courage and how to overcome the scars that lie beneath our skin.

The cast includes Stephany Goulart as 'Violet', Shan Williams plays 'Flick' and Matt Coakley plays 'Monty', the young soldier traveling to an Army base on the cusp of the Vietnam War. Kyra Anthony is 'Young Violet' and Jeffrey Fiorello plays the role  of the father. Summit Playhouse veteran performer Michael King is the 'Preacher', while Laura Berman Fortgang is the 'Old Lady'. The cast also includes Sharaé Moultrie as the singer 'Lula Buffington', Will Carey as 'Virgil', Bailey Howell, and Thomas Fetner.
