MONTCLAIR, NJ - Watchung School Principal Joseph Schmidt will be leaving for another position soon. Schmidt first came to the Montclair School District in 2012 from the Morristown School District, where he served as principal and teacher. Schmidt's sudden notice didn't allow much time for the Watchung community to bid farewell since school is out.

He sent the following letter to parents on Thursday:

"Dear Watchung School Families,

It is with great sadness that I share this news with you! I will be leaving my role as principal of Watchung School as of June 30, 2015. After much deliberation and discussion with my family, I have decided to accept a position in another school district in Central New Jersey.
This was not an easy decision to make considering my respect and admiration for the incredible Watchung School staff, students and families. I will truly miss each and every one of you and I will remember my days at Watchung fondly.
Sincerely,
Joseph Schmidt"
