Program to Commemorate the

150th Anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s Death

Event #1: On Wednesday, April 15th, County Executive DiVincenzo will participate in an event to commemorate the 150th anniversary of President Abraham Lincoln’s death. The 16th American President, Lincoln was shot in Ford’s Theatre in Washington, DC, on the evening of April 14, 1865, and died the next day. The Seated Lincoln Statue in front of the Historic Essex County Courthouse was created by Gutzon Borglum and dedicated in 1911. It is probably the most famous statue of Lincoln outside of Washington, DC. Civil War historian John Zinn will be the featured speaker at the ceremony, which was organized by Guy Sterling, former Star-Ledger reporter.

Place:             Historic Essex County Courthouse

                                                470 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd.

                                                Newark, NJ

 

We will meet by the Seated Lincoln Statue in front of the Historic Courthouse.

It will be held RAIN or SHINE.

 

Essex County 1-Mile Fun Run and Walk

Event #2: On Saturday, April 18th, County Executive DiVincenzo invites the public to celebrate the arrival of spring by participating in the Essex County 1-Mile Fun Run and Walk. Children are encouraged to run individually or as a member of a school team. Schools and groups must register in advance by calling 973-268-3500. This is a free event. All participants will receive a commemorative T-shirt.

Essex County Family Day

Event #3: On Saturday, April 18th, County Executive DiVincenzo invites the public to come out and enjoy an afternoon of family-fun with a variety of events including live performances, children’s activities, a fishing derby and more. Bring your own picnic lunch or purchase food from vendors who will be on site and enjoy the picturesque views overlooking the lake. Admission is free but food and other merchandise will be for sale.
