Women's Empowerment Forum Tonight in Montclair

MONTCLAIR,NJ - Several female leaders will gather in Montclair for a panel discussion on Tuesday, April 4 at 7pm.

As part of Women's Empowerment Week, the panel will consist of the following local female leaders: including WOR radio host Joan Herrmann, career and life coach Laura Berman Fortgang, Montclair Township Councilwoman Renee Baskerville, producer and activist Peg Cafferty, business owner and teacher Omni Kitts Ferrara, and Masiel Rodriquez-Vars, executive director of the Montclair Fund for Educational Excellence. The event will be moderated by local entrepreneur, Donna Miller, founder and president of C3 Workplace in Montclair and Sparta.

Hosted by the Montclair Center Business Improvement District and sponsored by Schumacher Insurance, the forum held at the Wellmont Theater, will include a schedule of discussions by experts from diverse fields.  This is part of the second annual "Women's Empowerment Week" occurring from April 1 to 9.

During the week-long initiative, several locations throughout Montclair Center will collect funds, clothing and personal hygiene products for Essex County’s rape care center, SAVE of Essex County, which is a Montclair-based program serving Essex County. The donations will go to support providing rape care packages to sexual assault victims, a 24-hour emergency hotline, and victim counseling and support.

"This year's Women's Empowerment Week has grown. We also look forward to the culminating Ladies Night Out, which is the largest ever," Diane Israel, of the Montclair Center BID, stated. Israel added that Ladies Night Out has over 50 businesses participating.

This year's event was planned for April so that it directly tied in with Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

From Wednesday, April 5, through Friday, April 7, more than 30 discussions have been scheduled throughout downtown Montclair Center by women professionals, health and nutrition experts and entrepreneurs.

Discussions include Elisa Charters of Latina Surge on empowerment and equal pay, Virginia Cornue and Linda Lombri, who will highlight life after retirement, artist Stephanie Spitz and artist/owners Amy Tingle and Maya Stein sharing about their lives as artists, and Serena Chen, M.D., discussing IVF and more.

Attendees will be asked for a small donation ($2-5) to benefit SAVE of Essex.
