Prosecutor's Office Investigates Apparent Suicide of Officer in Bloomfield Police HQ

NEWARK, NJ - The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating an apparent suicide that occurred in the Bloomfield Police Department overnight.

The preliminary investigation indicates that retired Newark Police Lt. Patrick Montella shot himself in the Bloomfield Headquarters while in custody. The 58 year old was a resident of Bloomfield.
