The Salvation Army will celebrate its 12th Annual Coffee & a Cause “friendraiser” on Thursday, May 3rd 2018.

The Salvation Army came to Montclair in 1891, a time when the community was coming into its own. As times changed so did the needs of the community.  In the late 1970’s The Salvation Army expanded the scope of services it provided and developed a social services delivery system to help meet those needs.  Today, The Salvation Army Montclair Citadel operates a multifaceted service program designed to meet the needs of those we serve.  The Salvation Army Montclair Citadel is responsible for the operation of Cornerstone Shelter, the only homeless shelter of its kind in suburban Essex County. Cornerstone Shelter, a 23-bed facility equipped to shelter men, women, and families.  Its primary mission is to equip individuals to transition from the shelter to independent living within a reasonable period.

The Salvation Army Montclair Citadel has provided a continuum of care to the homeless and disadvantaged in our service area.  Operating since 2009 in a newly constructed facility on Trinity Place, The Salvation Army Montclair Citadel serves Essex County in the provision of emergency services to the homeless and imminently homeless which include, but are not limited to: shelter for the homeless, drop-in center services, shower program, utility and rental assistance, food pantry, furniture and clothing assistance, congregate feeding, information and referral services, counseling, and support services.
