NEWARK, NJ - Christian McBride (Bassist, composer, educator, advocate) is set to perform in Newark on Saturday, according to a release.  Entitled, “A Jazzy New Year,” the performance will take place on Saturday, January 5th at 6:00pm at Bethany Baptist Church, located at 275 West Market Street, Newark.

The Six-time GRAMMY®-winner is a Philadelphia native. McBride moved to New York in 1989 to pursue classical studies at the Juilliard School. There he was promptly recruited to the road by saxophonist Bobby Watson. He went on to front his own groupsCMB and the Christian McBride Big Band, as well as accompany come of the greatest names in jazz, includingKenny Kirkland, Benny Green, Houston Person, Freddie Hubbard, Betty Carter, and Cyrus Chestnut, just to name a few.

Currently he hosts and produces “The Lowdown: Conversations With Christian” on SiriusXM satellite radio andNational Public Radio’s “Jazz Night in America”, a weekly radio show and multimedia collaboration betweenWBGO, NPR and Jazz at Lincoln Center. He also serves as Artistic Advisor for Jazz Programming at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC).
