Gin Maker Lorna Scott, Founder and CEO, Inverroche, on Growing a Spirits Startup

Sample gin, and hear from the founder of an artisanal spirits company based in the Western Cape of South Africa at this one-of-a-kind event at Montclair State.

In celebration of Global Entrepreneurship Week, Lorna Scott (Founder and CEO of Inverroche) will share her knowledge on building a small family business in to the biggest South African pioneer gin brand. What started as a passion project to grow female economic empowerment, quickly grew into an African luxury project that communicates a story of a special place, home to the richest biome in the world, “The Cape Floral Kingdom.” Her company’s workforce is 75 percent women.

Scott will be interviewed by Greg Cant, dean of the Feliciano School of Business, in a fireside chat atmosphere, immediately followed by a sampling of Inverroche gin.

Inverroche gin emerged from Scott’s concern about the indigenous flora of the Western Cape region coming under threat due to invasive alien plants. Inverroche has invested in local initiatives to create awareness of the uniqueness and value of the local flora, while also creating
employment in a region blighted by unemployment and poverty.

“Our enterprise is a return to traditional values: handcrafted, family concerns, small batches, made real slow, authentic and unusual," Scott said in a story.

Event will be in room 140, Feliciano School of Business, Montclair State.

But the smart, funny sequel by Lucas Hnath has much to say about marriage, the cost of independence, abandoning one’s family and other issues that ring true. When Nora insists that marriage won’t exist in 20 or 30 years, ...
