Don’t Delay! Demonstrate and Donate for Refugees

The Refugee Resettlement Effort at St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish, Montclair cannot stand by as migrant families are torn apart at our borders by our government’s harsh policies and detention practices while they seek freedom from war, violence and poverty in their countries.

Our project will have immediate impact on these struggling families right here in our own community. We are providing housing for newly arriving families. Our immediate goal is to raise $16,000 to cover the cost of a much-needed new roof at a building that can house up to four families.

We are asking for donations to our GoFundMe campaign and for volunteers. Once the roof is completed, repair and renovations on the interior of the building can be done. The residence has four separate living quarters and a shared kitchen. We would like to move families in the next two months, but we need your help. We need teams of volunteers who can clean, paint, assemble furniture, and offer general assistance to get this property ready for our families. We welcome assistance from local contractors also. The need is urgent and the time is now. Our most important need is for donations for the roof repair.

In partnership with Catholic Charities of Newark, we are entering our third year of helping and welcoming refugees right here in our community. In 2017 we sponsored two young men who were cleared for their admittance to the USA and assigned to Catholic Charities after spending five years in Thailand. Sayed and Abed arrived in our community in June of 2017. We are proud to say that both men are now financially self-sufficient and while Abed left us to live in Detroit near his brother, Sayed resides in Bloomfield, attends Seton Hall University and works at a local restaurant. Sayed is an active member of our refugee resettlement effort, giving back in gratitude for all he has accomplished within our supporting community.
