MAPLEWOOD, NJ — New Jersey Family magazine has named Deanna Taylor-Heacock, owner of Good Bottle Refill Shop, its first Mompreneur of the Year.

"This is such an honor to me because it means people are embracing change in order to improve the environment and lower their waste,” Taylor-Heacock told TAPinto SOMA. Her shop is NJ’s first zero waste refill store, where consumers bring their own packaging and refill with bulk household cleaners and other personal care items.

The magazine said they instituted the contest because "While we face unprecedented challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, the need to support small businesses has never been more important." Good Bottle Refill Shop is part of the General Store Cooperative on Springfield Avenue. The Cooperative, and Good Bottle, opened last September and did a brisk business until they had to close for the coronavirus pandemic. Taylor-Heacock quickly shifted gears and now offers home delivery or curbside pickup in exchangeable bottles. NJ Family said they reviewed nearly 200 entries before choosing Taylor-Heacock.
