MONTCLAIR, NJ - Local Montclair eatery, Stuffed Grassfed Burgers, has raised funds to support the Minnesota Freedom Fund. All profit made on May 30 was donated to support the cause of justice, organizers wrote on Facebook.

This was in response to national outrage over the killing of an African-American man in Minneapolis. George Floyd was handcuffed while police officers kneeled on his body, including his neck for nearly 9 minutes, until he was lifeless. This act has sparked international outrage and civil unrest.

The owner cited that this was the best day they have ever had for their business. At the end of the campaign, they raised $1400, but realized that the Minnesota Freedom Fund was no longer accepting donations. Instead, proceeds went to the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund.

The owners wrote, "The Minnesota Freedom Fund sent out a notice saying they no longer need donations. That’s great to hear. So we are redirecting our money to the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund."

They wrote on their page:

"Saturday, May 30th; we will be donating all of our profit to the Minnesota Freedom Fund. No one should be silent in times like these, or ever on topics such as this one. This business will always stand up for justice, even if we lose business because of it. Click on the link in our bio if you can’t make it tomorrow but would like to donate on your own. 💚

At the conclusion of the campaign, they raised $1400 and wrote:

I want to thank everyone who came out yesterday. The turn out was amazing. We were literally overwhelmed. We only have 4 people who can work right now. We fell behind......we are really sorry for how long the wait was for some of you. And we appreciated your patience.

We went on to have a profit of $1400!!! That’s absolutely incredible. We had the best day we’ve ever had! People were socially distancing outside the door and had their masks on. The whole thing was great to see. The Minnesota Freedom Fund sent out a notice saying they no longer need donations. That’s great to hear. So we are redirecting our money to the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund.

A lot of people are thanking me. I appreciate it. But every white privileged person in this country should be doing this. I shouldn’t be thanked for this. This shouldn’t be special. If you’re white, it is your job to speak out, and then do something about it. Or nothing will change.

I’ll leave you a quote from someone I’ve idolized my whole life. We all need to do better.

“Mom, wherever there's a cop beating a guy. Wherever a hungry newborn baby cries. Where there's a fight against the blood and hatred in the air. Look for me, Mom, I'll be there. Wherever there's somebody fightin' for a place to stand. Or decent job or a helpin' hand. Wherever somebody's strugglin' to be free.
Look in their eyes Mom you'll see me."
